Spillover

Spillover

By Alex Brown

Bat habitat loss and degradation is not only endangering species, but the entire web of life. The accelerating anthropocene as a global economic system of colonial extractivism and deforestation is creating monumental human vulnerabilities to pandemics. This is a non-verbal environmental tragedy, simultaneously playing out human and bat histories before modern-day pandemics hit.

Spillover takes its name from the process of zoonotic spillover, the transmission of diseases from wild animals to humans, and it’s about leaving bats the f*ck alone.
